Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride water soluble powder

Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride Water Soluble Powder (WSP) is a broad-spectrum tetracycline-class antibiotic for veterinary oral administration via drinking water or feed. The active ingredient is Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride (CAS 2058-46-0, C₂₂H₂₄N₂O₉·HCl, MW 496.90), a yellow crystalline, hygroscopic powder that is freely soluble in water (>100 g/L) and photodegrades slowly in solution. Common commercial strengths are 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% WSP (equivalent to 100/200/300/400/500 mg Oxytetracycline HCl per gram powder).
It is a generic equivalent of legacy brands Terramycin®, Engemycin®, Aquacycline®, Oxy-WS®, supplied as finished WSP for poultry/swine/cattle integrators or as API bulk (94.5–102.0% assay) for in-house formulation.
Mode of Action:
Oxytetracycline is a bacteriostatic broad-spectrum antibiotic. It binds reversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit (A-site), blocking tRNA attachment and halting bacterial protein synthesis. Active against:
Gram-positive: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Corynebacterium
Gram-negative: E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Haemophilus, Campylobacter, Bordetella
Atypical: Mycoplasma (M. gallisepticum, M. hyopneumoniae), Chlamydia, Rickettsia, Spirochetes
Because it is bacteriostatic (not bactericidal), host immune clearance does the killing — overdosing does not compensate for poor husbandry.
