Composition
Each 1 mL contains:
Enrofloxacin 100 mg (equivalent to 10% w/v)
Excipients q.s. to 1 mL
Pharmacotherapeutic Group
Fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent for veterinary use.
Pharmacological Properties
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic, broad-spectrum bactericidal fluoroquinolone. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. It is active against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, as well as mycoplasmas.
Mechanism of Action
The bactericidal effect results from interference with bacterial DNA supercoiling, leading to rapid cell death. Enrofloxacin is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, widely distributed to tissues and body fluids (including lungs, liver, kidney, and macrophages), and partially metabolized to ciprofloxacin, which also contributes to the antimicrobial effect.
Indications
For the treatment and control of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by enrofloxacin-sensitive organisms in:
Poultry (broilers, layers, turkeys): CRD (Chronic Respiratory Disease), infectious coryza, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, fowl cholera, airsacculitis, and mycoplasmosis.
Swine: PRDC (Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex), enzootic pneumonia, pleuropneumonia, salmonellosis, post-weaning diarrhea, and colibacillosis.
Cattle (calves, pre-ruminants): Bacterial enteritis, pneumonia, navel ill, and calf diphtheria.
Sheep & Goats: Respiratory infections, pasteurellosis, colibacillosis, and urinary tract infections.
Companion animals (dogs, cats): UTIs, skin and soft tissue infections, wound infections, and mycoplasmosis (use with caution in young, growing animals).
