Coated Sodium Butyrate 50% is a microencapsulated, food-grade dietary supplement ingredient consisting of 50% active sodium butyrate (C₄H₇NaO₂, CAS 156-54-7) — the sodium salt of butyric acid, a naturally occurring short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) — and 50% edible coating matrix (typically hydrogenated vegetable oil, palm stearin, or a lipid–polymer composite). The coating masks the strong rancid-cheese odor of raw butyrate, protects the active from gastric acid, and enables gradual, targeted release through the small intestine into the colon, where butyrate serves as the primary energy source for intestinal epithelial cells.
In the coated form it appears as white to off-white, free-flowing beadlets or granules, essentially odorless, non-hygroscopic, and suitable for hard-shell capsules, tablets, and dry sachet blends.
