Furazolidone is a nitrofuran antibacterial agent and monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
This product is a yellow powder or crystalline powder; odorless, slightly bitter after the initial tasteless. This product is slightly soluble in dimethylformamide, very slightly soluble in *, almost insoluble in water, ethanol or ether.
Furazolidone is a bactericide with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. The most sensitive bacteria are Escherichia coli, Bacillus anthracis, paratyphoid, Shigella, and Klebsiella. Mainly used for bacterial dysentery, enteritis, cholera, can also be used for typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, giardiasis, trichomoniasis and so on. It can be used in combination with antacids and other drugs to treat antral sinusitis caused by Helicobacter pylori.
Furazolidone has been used in human and veterinary medicine.
