Furaltadone Hcl

CAS No.: 3759-92-0
Furaltadone HCl is a synthetic nitrofuran derivative widely used as a veterinary antibiotic and antibacterial agent. It is particularly effective against Gram-negative bacteria and is commonly applied in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.
Mechanism of Action:
Furaltadone HCl belongs to the nitrofuran class of antibiotics. It exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial enzyme systems involved in carbohydrate metabolism. The compound is reduced by bacterial nitroreductases to reactive intermediates that damage bacterial DNA and proteins, leading to bacterial cell death.
Key Applications & Efficacy:
Furaltadone HCl is primarily used in veterinary medicine due to its broad-spectrum antibacterial properties.
Target Species: Poultry (chickens), Livestock (pigs, cattle), Aquaculture (fish, shrimp).
Effective Against:
Bacterial Infections: Salmonella enterica, E. coli, Staphylococcus spp.
Protozoal Diseases: Coccidiosis.
Aquatic Diseases: Bacterial Gill rot, erythroderma, hemorrhagic diseases.
Administration: Typically administered orally via feed or drinking water at doses of 50-200 ppm (parts per million).
Key Benefits:
Broad-Spectrum Antibacterial: Highly effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria.
High Efficacy in Aquaculture: Shows good efficacy in treating water mildew and bacterial infections in aquatic animals.
Veterinary Grade: Specifically formulated for animal health, ensuring safety and efficacy in livestock and poultry.
