Kitasamycin is a kind of macrolide antibiotics and a broad spectrum antibacterial drug. The mechanism of action is the same as erythromycin. Kitasamycin is useful in the treatment of infections from gram-positive and gram-negative sensitive bacterium, including staphylococcus aureus(eg. multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), pneumococcus, streptococcus, bacillus anthracis, bacillus erysipelatos-suis, Listeria, clostridium, clostridium chauvoei, haemophilus influenza, meningococcus, pasteurellae, etc. In addition, it is active against mycoplasma with the antibacterial effect similarity to that of tylosin. Its antibacterial effect was less than that of erythromycin among most of the gram positive bacterium. It is active against some gram-negative bacterium, rickettsia and borrelia. Its effect on multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is superior to erythromycin and tetracycline.
Pharmacokinetics:
Mean peek serum concentrations of kitasamycin occur about 2 hours later after oral administration. It could distribute in organs and tissues widely. The concentrations of kitasamycin in the liver, lung, kidney and muscle, often exceed plasma concentration. Kitasamycin is excreted mainly by the hepatobiliary system and its concentrations in the bile and feces are at a high level. A small amount of kitasamycin is excreted by the kidneys.
Indication:
Used for infections from gram-positive and gram-negative bacterium, mycoplasma, leptospira on pigs and poultry. It could also treat vibrionic dysentery of pigs. It is used as the feed additive for pigs and poultry in order to promote the growth performance of animals and improve feed efficiency.
